The Municipality of Clarington is proud to recognize & celebrate two hometown Olympians who are representing Canada (and Clarington!)
at the Sochi 2014 Olympics!

Clarington’s Tara Watchorn of Newcastle Village plays defence for Canada’s Women’s Hockey Team in Sochi and scored a goal in her debut game to help Canada win 5-0 over Switzerland.  The women are currently undefeated and hopes are high we’ll see them advance to the Gold Medal game that will be played on Thursday, February 20th.  Plans are well underway for a Gold Medal Party at the Newcastle Community Town Hall hosted by The Municipality of Clarington.

The Gold Medal Partybegins at 11:00am on Thursday, February 20th  at the Newcastle Community Town Hall at 20 King Avenue West, Newcastle.  Puck drop is at 12:00pm (EST).  Parking is available on the east side of the building and in the surrounding neighbourhood; use public transit, carpool with friends from the Newcastle & District Recreation Complex or walk on over!

Watch the Gold Medal game with some of Tara’s family members and lots of friends and supporters on a giant screen!    Come join us for light refreshments, giveaways, lots of fun and excitement as we cheer on Canada’s Women’s Hockey Team, and Clarington’s own Tara Watchorn, to Gold!!  Wear your Canada gear or cheer in red & white!

Clarington’s Matt Morison of Burketon is competing in two snowboarding events, the Parallel Giant Slalom on Wednesday, February 19 starting at 12:40am (EST) and the Parallel Slalom on Saturday, February 22 also at 12:40am (EST).  Brimacombe and the Municipality of Clarington are inviting you to a Red, White & Gold Pep Rally for Matt Morison on Friday, February 21, 2014 at Brimacombe, 4098 Regional Road 9, Orono.  Join the party from 5:00pm to 10:00pm as we cheer on Clarington’s own Matt Morison as he prepares for his second race at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi!

Buses will be provided to and from Brimacombe  for the Red, White and Gold Pep Rally on February 21st with pick up points in Courtice, Bowmanville, Newcastle & Orono to take you up to the hill and back.

*Buses with return from Brimacombe to their departure points at 7:30pm and 10:00pm.

Of course the time difference means you’ll have to watch the race from your own home in the wee hours of the morning, but that doesn’t mean you can’t join all his supporters on the slopes of Brimacombe for an awesome Pep Rally!  Have your face painted, create a flag to cheer him on and send him a message through photo or video!  The event will be held in Brimacombe’s East Chalet. Parking via Gate 4 is recommended.
